When it comes to electrical systems, many homeowners don’t know the signs to look for to know their system needs help. Unlike other systems in the home, the electrical system doesn’t create as many visible symptoms. For example, when a heating and air conditioning system need help, the house either gets really hot or really cold.Symptoms of Electrical Issues

At AGK Electric, we love to educate Raleigh homeowners on what they need to look for to know their electrical system needs help.

5 symptoms to watch for to know that a Raleigh home’s electrical system needs an electrician are:

  1. System Interruptions: If an electrical system has times that it causes the entire home to go dark, even if it is just for a few minutes, call an electrician! This could mean there is an issue with the circuits.
  2. Lights Flickering: When the light switch is turned on, does the light flicker on and off or not turn on? This means it time to call a Cary electrician for help!
  3. Power strips and Excessive Cords: If there are cords running through the center of rooms or a power strip is being used to get everything plugged in, this is a problem. It means there are not enough outlets in the areas of the home that need it.
  4. Behind the Cover: Behind every outlet is a box. When you pull the cover off the wall, if you see black rubber in the box, this is a problem. This was an older standard that has since been updated and thus, these boxes need to be replaced.
  5. Warm to Touch: While it is nice in the cooler, winter months to have warm spots. But, the outlets should not be one of those spots. When an outlet or light switch is hot to the touch, this is a sign of a very serious problem.
